Ouch…Sometimes the Truth Hurts

On June 13 as I read my Chronological Bible I had one of those moments. Truth staring me in the face. The kind that comes as a warning. It whispered if you try to write your blog, speak your platform, push your book in your way this is what will happen to you. Want to know what it said?

‘”Woe to the obstinate children,” declares the Lord, “to those who carry out plans that are not mine, forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit, heaping sin upon sin…”‘  Isaiah 30:1

I can be an obstinate child. When I get tired of taking each step of faith and the progress of things seem slow, I want to do things my way. I carry out plans that are mine. I form alliances that God never intended. I heap sin upon sin.

This is what my ministry would look like if I choose to do it any way, but God’s way. In the process I would drag others with me down the road of disobedience. Do you see how easy it is to do this? I turn to myself, my giftings, my way instead of humbly admitting I can’t do it without Him.

This applies to everyone though. Are you racing ahead in something in your life instead of waiting for God? Are you plotting and planning without God? Are you forming alliances that do not come from God? In the process are you heaping sin upon sin?

Perhaps you see how easy it is to walk down this road – to be obstinate, carrying out your plans. What can we do to prevent such an outcome?

  • Ask God for direction
  • Pray, pray, pray
  • Faithfully step out when He tells us to and patiently wait as He leads.
  • Realize our potential to want it our way and pray God keeps us from being an obstinate child

What are some other ways we can prevent ourselves from doing things our way?
