Amazing Grace

Good Friday. A day to remember.

A day to look at the ugliness of our sin and think about the price which Jesus paid that we may live.

Our sin condemned us to life separated from God and later eternity separated from Him.

Then Jesus “who knew no sin became sin that we might become His righteousness.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Jesus, beaten beyond recognition, suffered and died so we could live with Him – here on Earth and in eternity.

He died that we may live. He took our punishment on the cross.

“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.  And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Colossians 2:13-15

There is sadness in this day. Darkness seems to win, but once again God uses what looks like defeat to bring victory. Jesus died, His amazing ministry on Earth over, His followers hid, and His mockers gloated.

But God triumphed over our sin and the powers and authorities through the cross. Victory through defeat and grace through sacrifice.

My heart burns to know He died so this stumbling sinful woman can live with Him forever. Sometimes I wonder if we need a more realistic view of our sin. We shrug it off as no big deal. We claim freedom in Christ, but we forget the price paid for our freedom. Our freedom came at a steep price, a price we could never hope to pay. May we realize how desperate we are for Jesus so we love Him well and desire to serve Him in all we say and do.

Let’s not skip over the cross to get to the empty tomb. Let us remember what Jesus did for us. His amazing sacrifice so we can fully celebrate the empty tomb.

His grace is amazing. His sacrifice I cannot begin to understand. Thank You Jesus for the cross.
