Do You Feel Full? and Memory Monday
Yesterday I took the opportunity to sit in a Sunday School class with adults. I do not typically get that pleasure because I am normally hanging out with my posse of 5th and 6th graders.
It was a bit surreal hanging out with grown-ups. I never had to say, “It is time to quiet down now.” That was certainly different. I did however get teased for “shushing” my husband, but that is another story.
Kathy, the teacher, read John 10:10. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Then she asked, “Do you believe Jesus has come to bring you a full life?”
The question rattled around in my heart and head. Sure I believe Jesus came to bring me a full life (the Bible says He did), but do I realize my life is full now? Not full like I ate too much dinner and I feel like I am going to bust full. No full as in complete amazingly complete and yet still wanting more of God.
Some times life feels less than full. It feels overwhelming or just plain difficult. Yet even there in the trials and pain of life Jesus came that we may have a full life.
A life of purpose even in the midst of pain.
A life of joy in the midst of trials.
A life of victory in what looks like defeat.
Perhaps our hearts are not feeling it, but our hearts lie to us. Jeremiah 17:9 tells us so, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”
The truth is that we have a full life in Jesus, we only have to frame our hearts and minds to see it. First we have to give God thanks for everything in our lives. The good, the bad, and the ugly all come for a purpose into our lives. Even in the midst of the pain there is the sun and rain. Oh to praise Him in the midst of the mundane, tragic, and glorious things in life. We can do this because we can trust Him to work all things together for our good. (Romans 8:28) Next we need to keep our eyes on Jesus. Remembering what He did for us on the cross and trusting Him to lead us home to heaven in His time and way. (Hebrews 12:2) Finally we need to be ask God what He wants us to do today, laying down our plans and dreams, and living for His glory and honor. (Romans 12:1-2)
So today will you choose to believe you have a full life in Jesus no matter what your heart or circumstances say? What helps you feel like you have a full life in the midst of the difficult times?
Memory Monday friends…Let’s continue to work on Psalm 40:5. Next week we will move on to verse 6. I hope memorizing this Psalm is blessing you. It certainly is making a difference in my life.
