How to Choose Joy

Nehemiah 8:10 says, “…Do not grieve for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

And grief it is natural to this sinful world.

It oozes into the beautiful moments of life…

When someone near us should be there, but isn’t.

When what is reminds us of a should have been.

And the ache threatens to darken the light.

Joy seems impossible, hope an elusive dream.

Nothing ever changes. Satan whispers his lie.

Illnesses progress, finances dwindle, intimacy cools, and grief flows.

Still joy is available. . . if only we change our perspective.

If we look to Him who is able (even when it seems impossible) and remember all things are possible. . .

If we remember He has won the victory even when we don’t see it this side of heaven. . .

There is joy.

Joy in knowing God endured grief and shame to bring us into an intimate relationship with Himself.

Joy in knowing God has great plans for our lives.

Joy in knowing all things are possible because God is able.

When our perspective changes hope blooms, joy breaks through the darkness. And grief, it is something we feel, but not something we do. Instead we feel grief and choose to rejoice in the Lord.

How do you keep your eyes on God to rejoice rather than on your circumstances?
