How to Endure Under the Pressure of the Mundane

For far too long I have allowed my inner editor to silence my writing.

“I have nothing to say,” I would tell myself.

Besides if you can’t keep your house clean, what right do you have to write words? My inner diatribe would chide.

So I’ve been silenced under the pressure of the mundane…

…under the frustration of two injuries that have caused me pain and sidelined me from physical activity.

…under the pain and joy of change and growth, saying goodbye and learning how to say hello.

And the pressure of everyday life, I let it suck the joy from me. I tried to carry a ton of feathers on my back without letting the weight drive me to my knees.

Certain I could manage the frustration, pain, and the daily tension of life I stopped coming to the well of living water to be filled. All while encouraging those carrying a ton of bricks to come to Jesus and let Him carry their burdens.

A ton of feathers still weighs a ton…and a ton of bricks may sound really heavy, but it is still a ton. We all need to stop trying so hard and rest at he feet of Jesus. He doesn’t want us carrying around a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)

For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel,
“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
    in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”
But you were unwilling…        Isaiah 30:15 ESV

In returning to God and resting in Him is my salvation, in quietly trusting in Him is my strength. In returning He will take the ton of feathers or bricks from our shoulders and give us rest. In quieting our mouths and trusting Him, that is when we are strong…

The question remains, “Are we willing?”

Father God help us to lay our burdens at your feet that we may endure. Help us to be faithful in the mundane and in the difficult and in the painful as we rest in You. May we be willing to bring You glory and honor at all times. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.
