Moved by Compassion

Welcome to This Really Got me Wednesday. . . Today is the day we share things that God has used to motivate us, wow, us or change us. . . At the bottom of this post is the link-up party stuff. So join me and check out what God is using in other bloggers lives as well!

Last week I posted about how God really smacked me in the face with Philippians 2:3-8.

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,  who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Not long after pondering the verses above, I ran into the following YouTube video. I realize this video is 26 minutes long and you may be thinking. . . I don’t have time to watch it all. . . If you do have time take it now, if not skip the video and I will give my little summary, but it is the video that got me.

Christine Caine just blew me away with her heart so full and her passion to free slaves of the sex trafficking industry. I was humbled by the idea that if my compassion only leads to tears it is not compassion. True compassion means actually taking an interest in the lives of other people. Not focusing on statistics, but on faces. Realizing that compassion is only helpful if it motivates me to act. . . All too often I am not the Good Samaritan, but I am the Priest or Levite who walks past feeling sorry for those in pain and need, but doing nothing to help.

So here it is. The painful truth. Compassion isn’t compassion until you act – instead it is pity. So again I pray for wisdom about what I am to do next. Faith to step out in compassion and shine my light in the dark world.

What has compassion moved you to do? Would you share with me in the comments?

Are you ready to link up with me? I can’t wait to see what got you this week!
