Right Thinking Wrong Thinking…Vengeance

It starts young…

“She hit me first.”

It continues into adulthood…

“She cheated on me so I shot her and her lover.”

In fact if you don’t seek revenge, you seem weak, weird, and wimpy.

Wrong Thinking: I MUST defend myself.

Heart Issues: Vigilant for wrongs against me, expecting to be wronged, constantly preparing a list to explain actions and defend self.

Actions: You mistrust those around you and you sabotage your relationships watching for wrongs and blaming others for wrongs that were not committed. Thus you have a string of broken relationships. You are ready to do battle to defend yourself. You do not ask for forgiveness even when you do wrong others because you are too focused on getting even. You are so focused on revenge or your brand of “justice” that you miss out on the blessings you have right in front of you.

Right Thinking: God defends me. Romans 12:19 says,

“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”says the Lord.”

Heart Issues: You trust your heart with God and do not worry about how others treat you. You know that God is on your side. You are willing to give the benefit of the doubt when someone may have slighted you because your security is in God.

Actions: Since you know that your battle is not against flesh and blood (see Eph. 6) you are able to trust God and not rely on man to find justice. You are able to extend forgiveness easily and ask for forgiveness when you have been in the wrong. You have whole relationships as much as it depends on you.

What kind of things help you give God room for vengeance? Are you able to let God do His thing instead of insisting your brand of justice?
