Why I Need Memory Monday

My eyes grew wide. My heart felt like it beat in slow motion for a few seconds then sped up to 1,000 beats a minute.

“No, I didn’t say that,” my words were daggers pointed at my husband. “I told you to see if they wanted to go on date on Saturday night. Not bring their family over.”

I felt like a caged animal. This is not how my weekend is supposed to go. I am busy. I. . .

I can’t say I thought about Philippians 2:3-8

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who being in very nature God did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross.”

Instead I thought about my needs and wants and desires. My husband offered to change the invitation to a date or something else. I knew I was wrong. So I swallowed my pride, prayed I would not get bitter, and we had that family over.

Looking back there were so many ways I missed out on ministering to this family because I was short-sighted. I didn’t pray they would feel welcomed, encouraged, or blessed. If I could have remembered Luke 6:31 “Do to others as you would have them do to you,” perhaps I would have remembered. I missed an opportunity to truly bless someone. All because I didn’t keep God’s Word foremost in my mind.

This week we are reviewing all the verses we have done to this point. So review Philippians 2:3-8, Psalm 103, and Psalm 121. Next week we will begin a new verse to memorize. However we will continue to have review weeks like this one to make sure we keep these verses in our heads.
