Arriving
“I can’t wait until…”
“When I am older I…”
“When I am married I can finally…”
“When I have kids I will feel…”
“When I make it big I will…”
For as long as I can remember I have wanted to arrive somewhere. That cliche, “I have finally arrived,” spoke to my heart. As a grade schooler I couldn’t wait to be a sixth grader and rule the school. As a sixth grader I couldn’t wait for middle school. In middle school I knew I would “arrive” once I got to high school. Then I wanted to drive, go to college, get married, have a career, have children…
Each time I reached some destination I discovered it wasn’t a destination at all, but another leg of the journey called life. I wasted a lot of time pining for something other than what was. I missed out on what God had for me in the now.
Yes the now of life is what God wants from us. He doesn’t want some destination…”When I get married I’ll…” He has something for us to do now.
Are you bedridden? He has a plan for you.
Are you infertile? He wants you to trust Him and cling to Him through your dark days. You never know how God will use you if you are willing.
Are you an empty-nester? Let Him fill your nest and give you a new vision for this period in your life.
Are you single? God has a plan for you in your singleness. Something you couldn’t do or learn if you were not single.
Are you in grade-school, junior high, college? God has a special plan for you now.
Are you nursing babies and wondering if this is all there is? God knows and gently leads you. There in the midst of diaper changes you can reflect His glory.
Let’s not miss the plan God has for us now because we want things to be different than they are.
Through Jesus, we have already arrived. We are right where He wants us. What we do with our now matters in eternity. Doesn’t that thrill you to know that your now matters for eternity?
So what are you going to do with your now to bring God glory?
