Enough

Lately I have struggled with enough.

I feel like I don’t do enough. I should do more with the gifts and talents God has given me.

I wonder am I a wise steward of time, finances, gifts, talents?

I want to do something big–something God-sized. I wonder if I am really doing what God wants me to do because it all seems so ordinary.

Then He reminds me…

He came clothed in ordinary skin–born in a lowly stable.

He lived a simple life for about 30 of His 33 years.

He lived a life of obedience in the simple things. He learned carpentry and Jewish law.

Perhaps it is there. In the simple humble obedience, in developing a strong relationship God that we too can live an extraordinary life.

In other words, the simple things are enough and the simple things are important just like the “God-sized” things.

If I can see God in the simple things; if I can bring God glory in the ordinary then I am doing something extraordinary. Through the power of the Holy Spirit I am defeating my sin-nature and laying up treasures in heaven.

But spiritual amnesia takes over at times. I move my eyes from Jesus and I place them squarely on myself. Suddenly there is nothing of joy or pleasure or God-glory in the ordinary. Instead the ordinary becomes drudgery. The drudgery becomes a mire so thick I cannot extricate myself from it. Only squarely fixing my eyes on Jesus changes things. Only then can the ordinary become extraordinary.

What ordinary things are you struggling with? Join me in asking God to show us how to bring Him glory in the ordinary so that it becomes extraordinary. Let’s start by giving Him thanks for all He does.

Thank You God that You care about the ordinary and through Your Spirit it can become extraordinary. Help us to give You praise, honor, and glory in all we do and say so that others will come to know You as their Savior and Lord of their lives. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
