Memorial Day 2013

Today we are to remember.

Remember the price of freedom and those who died so we could be free.

Today we remember freedom isn't free.

It is hard fought.

We think of the hundreds of thousands of souls who stood and died to protect our nation.

Those who fought so we could be independent.

Those who fought to free others from tyranny.

Those who fought to end slavery.

We remember those who fought on faraway lands and those who died on our own soil.

We think of names engraved on stone walls and handwritten in ledgers.

Remembering teaches us gratitude.

And gratitude – if we let it – transforms our lives and our country.

If only we remember.
