Perspective

“I miss the old Disney movies like The Lion King,” the clerk in the airport said.

I smiled and thought, “He thinks the ‘The Lion King’ is old?! How old does he think I am?”

That got me thinking about perspective. It colors how I view what is old and new. It helps me offer grace when I can imagine another person’s view. It spurs me on when I see the finish line. Perspective changes how I interpret situations. When I have God in view I can see all He allows in my life is for my good even if the situations themselves are not good.

Perspective reminds me that children grow fast even if some days it seems they will never grow up.

Far too often I cling to my perspective. I interpret my children’s energy as wildness and a dilberate attempt to defy me. I feel like my husband second guesses everything I do when he is just being thorough. I get angry at the driver who cut me off and don’t consider why he may be driving fast.

Circumstances seem impossible, but when I remember who I serve my perspective changes. 2 Kings 6:8-23 tells a story about Elisha in a difficult situation. The king of Aram’s army surrounded Elisha’s city. Elisha’s servant wakes up, sees the army, and runs to tell him. I can picture myself getting all worked up and stressed out. Elisha just prays God will open the eyes of his servant.

“Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” 2 Kings 6:17

Impossible situations become possible when we have God’s perspective. Lysa Terkeurst has mentioned lately that we receive news (like medical diagnosises), but that isn’t truth. The truth is God is able to do what He wants through and despite the news we receive. Perspective.

Let’ s pray God opens our eyes so we can see our circumstances from His perspective.
