Water for Our Thirsty Souls
I look out my window, drops of dew mixed with last night's rain cling to its surface. The damp world reflects the morning sunlight causing colors to appear more vibrant. As if awakened by the cooler weather and rain birds fly, bugs swarm, and hummingbirds visit the feeder outside my window.
The rain awakens life. Water changes the drought starved foliage into a thriving colorful plants. Yes rain changes things.
There is also rain for the sun-scorched soul. Rain that brings life-giving water and refreshes the soul. This rain though only falls when we do our part.
We must press on to know God to receive the rain our dry and weary souls long for. He will come it as certain as the dawn, but we must press on to know Him.
Some days when I read God's word or study or pray I don't feel the rain of His presence, instead I feel far away and dry. So I have to remember that God will come forth, it is certain. He will bring the rain my soul needs. I just have to press on.
As I press on to know God, His rain comes and awakens my soul. His coming is not on my timetable. He comes in His perfect timing and way, but He does come. So while I feel dry, I press on looking forward to the rain God will bring. Trusting His timing and longing for a drink from Him.
Father God, help me to press on to know You more no matter how I feel. Remind me that You will come like the rain to water my soul. In Jesus' name, amen.
What do you do when your soul feels dry?
