A Little Lent Secret

If you are like me and you hear Lent lasts 40 days and then you start counting on the calendar…wait there are 46 days between Ash Wednesday (the beginning of Lent) and Easter Sunday…

WHAT GIVES?

Because seriously I like chocolate or whatever it is I decided to fast from during Lent and uh, it was advertised as only 40 days….

Well, in the early church one never fasted on Sundays. Why? From what I gather it was a day of feasting because it was the day Jesus rose from the dead. Therefore no fasting was allowed. But they wanted the Lenten season to mirror Jesus’ 40 days of fasting in the desert, so they added in six Sundays.

Since Lent is somewhat suspended so we can celebrate our freedom in the risen Lord on Sundays, there will be no Lenten devotions on my blog on Sundays.
