How to Deal with Crazy Days
Just a brief peek into my crazy week so far…
On Tuesday I woke up feeling crummy. Stomach crummy. . .
So I planned to rest all day. The only problems were I had to get the kids ready for school, my precious husband was going to take them, and I had to coach the cheer squad in the afternoon because the head coach was out.
The morning went ok, I only ran to the bathroom once. Oh and I shook the cough syrup when the lid was not on and purple syrup sticky stuff landed all over me, the counter, and the floor. SIGH.
The rest of the day went rather well since I barely ate and laid on the couch until 2 PM. Then I had to get ready for cheer practice. . . Did I mention I have never cheered a day in my life? And I am much better suited to coaching say basketball than cheer?
I took some medication so I wouldn’t have tummy troubles while coaching. By God’s grace I didn’t have issues. The girls did GREAT! From an untrained co-coach’s perspective. Oh and I worked them hard!
Then Wednesday afternoon came around.
I was brushing my teeth when I heard it.
The sound of my cell phone ringing and when I looked at the caller id my heart flipped around a bit. The name of my kids’ school flashed across the screen.
I stopped brushing, took a deep breath, and answered. I held my breath as the secretary informed me J, my son, fell and one of his fingers looked funny.
No time for make-up or to dry my wet hair. I had to go.
So I picked up my three kids a bit early from school and headed to the walk-in clinic. As I walked in my husband called and our pediatrician could see him…So I walked out…
On the way to the pediatrician’s office we passed a wreck on the interstate. My kids and I prayed for the wreck and J’s precious hand.
As an aside, he was not acting like his hand was hurting much at all. Both J’s pinkies are a bit crooked naturally, but the injured one looked more crooked than the non-injured one. Strange…
The doctor immediately sent J for x-rays. While in the x-ray suite my cell phone rang again. I did not recognize the caller id and I did not answer it.
After the x-rays we walked back up to the pediatrician’s office and as we walked into the exam room I noticed I had a hole in my shirt. It was small and on the seem, but still a hole. Great. Now I not only look unkept, but I look like I don’t have adequate clothes.
The doctor said no fracture but to keep an eye on it. So we jumped in the van to head to Sonic because everyone feels better after having a Sonic drink and tots and mozzarella sticks. Right?
While there I checked my voice mail…I got accepted to Knox Theological Seminary. WOO HOO!
Today?
Well J’s hand was really bothering him this morning and I forgot to bring the ibuprofen with him to school. So I walked into school twice today and walked through the school. I talked with several people, spent some quality time filling out paper work at the office, and came home.
That is when I noticed this:
Yes a large hole in my shirt. I laughed and laughed. It has been one of those weeks, but the good thing is:
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for joy
and I will give thanks to him in song. Psalm 28:7
So when the week goes crazy I thank God for it all (at least I try to remember to thank God for it all). He after all is my strength and my shield. He holds me together and in Him is my joy.
What do you do when crazy things happen around you?
