Memory Monday. . .

Happy Labor Day everyone!

I hope you are having a GREAT weekend.

Last week I had one of “those” days.

The kind where you can’t get the motion activated water in public restrooms to work, the soap sprays everywhere, a delayed flight, what was supposed to be a one hour lay-over turned into a six-hour lay-over, and I could not login to my seminary classes.

What should have been simple was not. I wish I could tell you I stopped right there and thanked God for all the gifts in my life, but I didn’t. However something happened in that six-hour lay-over – God shook the spirit of heaviness off me and instead gave me a spirit of praise.

He brought Psalm 103 to my mind. The one we have been memorizing. “Bless the LORD O my soul…” (NASB) As I started remembering who He is and all He does for me, I began to praise HIm. As I praised and thanked Him, I got rid of the spirit of heaviness. Then I was able to be a blessing to others.

Perhaps that is why God had me re-memorize Psalm 103 – so God could lovingly draw me back to Him when I began to get self-absorbed and cranky. When His word is in my heart and mind, it ready to teach, rebuke, correct, and train me so I am thoroughly equipped to do all God has for me to do. (See 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

So here is our new memory challenge for this week and next. Psalm 121.(NASB)

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;

From where shall my help come?

My help comes from the Lord,

Who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to slip;

He who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, He who keeps Israel

Will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper;

The Lord is your shade on your right hand.

The sun will not smite you by day,

Nor the moon by night.

The Lord will protect you from all evil;

He will keep your soul.

The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in

From this time forth and forever.

Psalm 121 is only 8 verses so we will work on verses 1-4 this week and verses 5-8 next week. Will you join me? If you want to join me just leave a message in the comments. Say “I’m in” or “I am working on _______ this week.” That way we can keep each other accountable.

I’ll check in with you throughout the week and next week to make sure you are working on your verses. Will you also remind me by leaving a comment or posting on my Facebook page? Thanks!

Finally can you share a time that memorized scripture has helped you? Leave a comment. I can’t wait to hear from you.
