I Forgot
My smile faded as my eyes widened and my mouth fell open. Did I forget again, my mind reeled. My eyes squinted and I shook my head. Was I…? Then the light came on, the conversation remembered. “I am so sorry, I forgot.”
I seem to be doing that an awful lot lately–forgetting. I may know what I need to do earlier in the morning, but life happens and only a phone call reminds me of my to-do list. Yes I have a calendar. Most of the time events land there, but occasionally they don’t. Like that wedding I forgot to put on the calendar. I hunted about five minutes and found the invitation. It was the weekend before I thought it was. So glad I found the invitation.
I actually forgot to eat breakfast this morning. I kept getting interrupted and missed it completely. Don’t worry, I did eat lunch.
Forgetting is something I am not supposed to do. Didn’t you see it in the 10 commandments? Maybe it is the 11th commandment that I made up. THOU SHALT NEVER FORGET!
So I beat myself up. I say things like “I can’t get anything right today.” I gather guilt and determine not to forget EVER AGAIN. Only to discover I forgot to lock the door. Ahem.
But I am so glad that God never forgets. He does choose to not remember at times. Check this out:
“I, even I, am he who blots out
your transgressions, for my own sake,
and remembers your sins no more.” Isaiah 43:25
So from now on…I hope I never forget that God chooses to forget my sin…even when I forget something.
What have you forgotten lately? How do you handle it? How does knowing God chooses to forget your sin make you feel?
